Runner Girls spice up the act for CSUB Athletics

Runner Girls founder Christy Nemmer has been dancing since the age of two and it is her passion in life. The CSUB sophomore has taught dance classes on campus in the Student Recreation Center, ranging from ballet to jazz and everything in between. Ever since Christy started at CSUB, her friends and family have encouraged her to start a dance group, so the Runner Girls were a natural next step for her.

After their exhibition performance at the final men’s basketball game this season, the fans were hooked. (View the performance online at youtu.be/b04Av5UitWo)

“We had a really good crowd response. That was my biggest concern going into our first game. Right when we were finished you could hear (the crowd cheering),” Nemmer said.

The group is currently in its beginning stages – on its way to becoming both a club and part of CSUB Athletics. When the group is fully up and running, it will be funded by Athletics, much in the way CSUB Cheer is structured. Although the program will be similar to CSUB Cheer’s organization, Nemmer opines they will bring new energy to CSUB Athletics.

Official auditions will be held during spring quarter, and practices will be held over the summer.

If you are interested in joining the dance group, become a friend of the Runner Girls on Facebook to contact Nemmer at www.facebook.com/runnergirls.
